Sabalenka Survives Third Tiebreaker For Sixth Straight Semifinal

Aryna Sabalenka needed a third-set match tiebreaker and a second-serve ace to finish off Linda Noskova 7-6 (1), 3-6, 7-6 (10-7) on Tuesday, reaching the US Open semifinals for the sixth consecutive year. The result keeps alive her bid for a third straight title at Flushing Meadows.

Six straight semifinal appearances at one major is a benchmark few active players can match, and it reframes what looked like a shaky start to this tournament. Sabalenka dropped a set and needed extra points twice against a player ranked well outside the top ten, yet the outcome never wavered in the moments that mattered most.

That pattern, close sets settled by a handful of points, is either a sign of fraying dominance or evidence of a champion who simply finds the split points. Her semifinal opponent will tell us which.

The Rest of the Slate
Blue Jays
Kazuma Okamoto and Josh Smith homered and José Soriano worked seven innings of two-run ball as the Blue Jays beat the Athletics 4-2 on Tuesday. A seven-inning start from Soriano keeps the bullpen fresh heading into a stretch where every inning of rest matters.
US Open
No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula rallied past No. 26 Emma Navarro 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in an all-American quarterfinal, while No. 11 Frances Tiafoe outlasted Alex Michelsen 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (10-6) in a men's marathon. Defending doubles champion Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Luisa Stefani beat seventh-seeded Jiang Xinyu and Zhang Shuai 6-3, 6-4 to reach the women's doubles semifinals. Three quarterfinals, three matches that went the distance, on a day built entirely on tiebreakers and third-set grinds. The pattern suggests a tournament where depth of will is deciding more than raw seeding.
The Number
7

José Soriano's innings pitched Tuesday against the Athletics A seven-inning outing from a starter is no longer routine at this point in a season, and it is the cheapest form of bullpen management available. Watch whether Toronto leans on that length again this week, because every inning Soriano covers is an inning the relief corps doesn't have to answer for down the stretch.

Top Dog — Betting Angle

The pick: Seahawks minus the points at home. Seattle gets the Super Bowl rematch on its own turf, and home openers with this much motivation rarely go to the road favorite.
