Scheffler Wins By Widest Margin In 68 Years

Scottie Scheffler closed the FedEx St. Jude Championship with a 4-under 66 to win by eight shots, the largest margin at TPC Southwind in 68 years. The victory pays $3.6 million outright, but the real number is the $23 million in bonus money already locked in for finishing atop the FedEx Cup standings heading into next week's BMW Championship.

That bonus structure changes the incentive calculus for the rest of the field. Everyone else at the BMW Championship is now playing to close a gap that Scheffler built before the tournament even started, and the more interesting story next week may be who is actually still trying to catch him.

The Rest of the Slate
Blue Jays
Ben Rice hit a tiebreaking home run in the 10th inning as the Yankees beat the Blue Jays 4-3 on Sunday, with Ernie Clement's ninth-inning sacrifice fly having tied it moments earlier. Toronto is off Monday before a six-game trip to Tampa Bay and New York, with Jose Soriano, Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber lined up to start.
IndyCar
Marcus Ericsson passed Romain Grosjean with four laps remaining to win the inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, his fifth career IndyCar victory. The event has a five-year deal to stay in the city, which means Sunday's contact between Ericsson and teammate Will Power is the first chapter of what should become an annual storyline.
The Number
3

Starters announced for the Blue Jays' upcoming road trip Jose Soriano, Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber are set to start the three games against the Rays, a rotation built for stability rather than upside. Watch how Scherzer performs on the road specifically, since his home and away splits will tell the front office whether he is a reliable option down the stretch or a matchup-dependent one.

What's On Tonight
No major games scheduled.
Top Dog — Betting Angle

The pick: Blue Jays team total over, Tuesday at Tampa Bay. Toronto has been finding late-inning offense against tough pitching all month, and a Soriano start against a Rays lineup that scuffles against sinkerball arms sets up well for the bats.

“An eight-shot margin says more about the gap than about the winner”
